The course focuses on practical hands-on training to ensure you are ready to test and tag on your own.

Qualification

Our one day short course provides the framework and environment for students to be deemed a ‘Competent Person’ and to start testing and tagging their own, or their employer’s equipment.

‘Competency’ is the term given to the level of skills, knowledge and experience required for individuals to be able to perform electrical safety testing to AS/NZS3760.

Competency can be gained through training, experience and qualifications. Your employer or a self-employed person is responsible for determining that the person carrying out the inspection, testing and tagging of electrical equipment has the required competencies.

This Short Course in Testing and Tagging does not qualify you to Test and Tag other people’s or other company’s equipment professionally. To test and tag professionally in Queensland you will need an electrical contractors licence. You will also need to complete a Nationally Accredited Test and Tag Course. For more information on Professionally Testing and Tagging, contact the Electrical Safety Office.

All in a day’s training

Our Test and Tag training day starts with a thorough look at Queensland's legislative requirements and the standards and codes of practice that apply to business and organisations.

Through both written and practical demonstrations, students will gain introductions into the principles of electricity - providing the basis for an understanding of the concepts of electrical safety.

We’ll look at electricity and electrical safety in the workplace - in particular for environments such as manufacturing and construction. Then, moving on students will explore testing and inspection – initially in theory, before getting practical with a range of portable appliance testers and electrical equipment.

During our course, you’ll discover the fundamentals of electrical testing - giving you the skills and knowledge to use a range of equipment – not just one brand or type of portable appliance tester. This will give students greater confidence and versatility to apply their skills in a range of environments.
